I opened up my NES console in an attempt to contrive a way to improve contact between the console and cartridges. I then removed the metal shielding. I can get system to turn on without the blinking effect, but nothing appears. My question is, is there any mechanism in these things that prevents the system from working when the console box is open or do I need to look elsewhere to solve my problem? I notice there are "striped contacts" on each side of the PCB which made me wonder if they had some sort of security in place that prevented the NES from running if the shielding wasn't contacting these.
