good point!

one of the reasons i was sticking to 8 bits was to re-use the shift-register in a controller, but since it doesnt matter how many bits are read, a larger register could be used... or daisy change a couple of the 8-bit registers togeather the same way it is done in SNES controllers.

but does anyone have any idea of how to convert a midi signal?
