Can I used a Zif socket to put on my devcart? Or are they too big? I will need 2, one for the prg and one for the chr.

If you're using a front-loader, and you're willing to open it's case, I think you could. (you need to apply a little weight on the cart when you do that, to get a good contact)

A low-profile socket with a ROM in it just barely fits into a toploader, anything else might be too large. You could check the diminsions on the ZIF's datasheet to see what it's size is compared to a socket, but anything larger probably won't fit very well.

I was planning on hooking the cart to a game genie to give it that extra space. Do you think that would work? (thanx for the speedy reply last question!)

Yeah, that should work fine for a top-loader system. Though in that case it'd be more accurate to say you're attaching the GG to the NES, heheh (it's a tight fit).

probably not the best to test with a gamegenie

Ccovell did this now his earlier demo's won't work on a non-gamegenie setup

if you have a toaster just take the top off, and the top rf plate, besides if you add a H/V scrolling switch to the cart you are going to want easy access

Yeah, that is something to keep in mind. Game Genie will initialize some stuff (probably clearing RAM and VRAM), you could easily overlook that if you test only with a GG.

I believe some Capcom games have a problem with the GG too, GG sets the freq. sweep registers but the Capcom games never touch them, so the sound gets kinda screwed up.

OK thats fine, so I can just test on a modified NES (with the metal bar taken off) and then when I want to display the final product I can attach it to a game genie and it will probably work then. The idea is that anybody should be able to take my game and play it on their NES without modifications.
